Domaine Méo Camuzet
Domaine Méo-Camuzet:The birth of the famous domaine Méo-Camuzet was made thanks to a man, Etienne Sauzet. Winemaker in Vosne-Romanée and deputy of Côte d’Or, he decided at the beginning of the 20th century to select parcels that seemed exceptional to him in order to extend his vineyard. Visionary, he discovered the potential of soils, like Clos de Vougeot (he was one of the first owner of it, the Clos now belongs to the Tastevin association). His daughter, Maria Noirot, who had no children, decided in 1959 (just before her death) to bequeath the domaine, to her closest relative, Jean Méo. The exploitation of the Domaine, by tenant farmers, allowed Jean Méo, firstly, to keep an eye on it combined with the pursuit of his career in Paris, in Général De Gaulle’s office. In 1985, the harvest, which was so far sold to negociants, was then bottled at the domaine. In 1988, Jean Méo took back the leading of the Domaine. With the help of the very famous Henri Jayer, the Domaine Méo-Camuzet got a worldwide recognition. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo-Camuzet leads the domaine, always in accordance with the burgundy wine tradition.
